Unit 5 : In-Depth Zine Package

Image
My narrative for my in-depth piece was about sleep deprivation and the symptoms the character feels and deals with throughout a day with no sleep, from the morning until the end. The three objects I chose were a bed in a plastic clear box, which is the character's most valued object; the eye drops for eyes that are open all the time with the eye opening contraptions everyone has in the zine; and the alarm clock with no sense of time, which shows time going down he drain. There is a poster in the back of the zine when you open it of the character once she has removed her eye opening contraption in the nude all natural and wasted out. The cover and back cover of the zine represent the character being pulled throughout the day by a figurative rope just to get to the place of rest. I loved how she put the drawings together to illustrate the ideas, in way I wouldn't have thought of. I chose the candle man one. I loved the idea behind them all, especially because they were not difficult and completely abstracted but clever and twisting. In this sequel of illustrations a woman has a lit match and is putting it to the candle mans head where the wick is. She watches him melt and then takes her clothes off and jumps into the puddle of his melted body as if it were a pool of water. The human figure turns into wax and then wax turns into water. I think it is telling a narrative about how some relationships with people, not necessarily romantic, but any can have someone who is controlling. The controlling person can force something upon the other that makes them melt or disappear into ...
