Unit 6: Open Project

The last project for this semester was an open project. I chose to continue my success with fabric sculptures. I combined some of my personal interest of dreams in with my interest of sculpture. I have taken advantage of the opportunities in this class and explored with sculpture, even though I am a painting major. I have developed so many knew practices, and checklists in my head when I am brainstorming, viewing other peoples work, and just thinking in general. I have learned so much about things I would have never noticed on my own. For example the landscape topic has completely changed my view on everything around me. I have also tried venturing off into using technology and interactive pieces, rather than just making something that can't be touched on the wall. Audiences are always going to be curious and I have a really big interest with developing something that is tangible for the audience, so I want to explore that. Unit 5 : In-Depth Zine Package

My narrative for my in-depth piece was about sleep deprivation and the symptoms the character feels and deals with throughout a day with no sleep, from the morning until the end. The three objects I chose were a bed in a plastic clear box, which is the character's most valued object; the eye drops for eyes that are open all the time with the eye opening contraptions everyone has in the zine; and the alarm clock with no sense of time, which shows time going down he drain. There is a poster in the back of the zine when you open it of the character once she has removed her eye opening contraption in the nude all natural and wasted out. The cover and back cover of the zine represent the character being pulled throughout the day by a figurative rope just to get to the place of rest.
